Synthesis

Description and goals

For the 2018-2021 triennium, CVR developed a Strategic Action Plan (PAE-CVR) called “EcoCircle CVR: Towards an Efficient Circular Economy”, based on work previously performed at the Centre or already contracted for this period.

This Plan is supported by four axes:

1. Consolidation of CVR's means in a circular economy;

2. Use of circular models in the economy;

3. Internationalization of CVR's R&D;

4. Reinforcement in management, marketing and national cooperation.

Axis 1 is based on work developed in the areas of energy, agricultural and waste material valorization and aims at improving new human resources and materials allowing to add skills within the scope of the biorefinery concept such as: use of advanced thermochemical technologies, application of biotechnology in waste bioconversion and use of efficient environmental technologies in the post-treatment of products.

Axis 2 focuses on increasing efficiency in the transfer of knowledge and technology to the market, by the effective implementation of circular models using LCA, by the involvement of specialized internal human resources, as well as by carrying out specific training / dissemination actions for SMEs, promoting technology transfer.

Axis 3 focuses on the set of activities aimed at the promotion and internationalization of R&D through a set of complementary activities, with the technical assistance of national and international reference partners.

Axis 4 aims to specialize CVR's internal human resources in the areas of marketing, management and communication, implementation of management procedures (project management, monitoring and activity’s control), aiming the rationalization and optimization of means, establishment of cooperation between higher education institutes and CIT - Technological Interface Centers and R&D certification.

It is in this context that Project CVR – Base Funding appears, a project integrated in the Strategic Action Plan established by the Centre and which aims to co-finance its execution.

Following the submission of the project to Call nº 01 / FITEC / 2018 for the Multiannual Base Funding of Interface Centers, CVR obtained financial support from FITEC representing 29% of the global investment of PAE-CVR, impacting on the hiring and setting of highly qualified staff, in the acquisition and modernization of equipment, in the performance of international missions and in the acquisition of services that provide the CVR with economic and financial sustainability, promoting a growth in the Center's research and technological development capacity in circular economy.

Green Financial Instruments for a More Sustainable Future
The commitment to the future and the need to promote a more sustainable planet reinforce the necessity of creating mechanisms to finance the transition to a low-carbon economy. Frameworks are fundamental documents in the process of issuing green bonds. CVR helps to construct this document aligned with the Principles published by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA).
